‘Breaking Bad’ in Ultra HD 4K format starts streaming on Netflix this week
Netflix has officially announced that the popular Breaking Bad TV show will become available to stream in 4K UltraHD starting this week.
Breaking Bad joins other 4K offerings from Netflix, including the critically acclaimed House of Cards political drama and movies such as Ghostbusters, Hostbusters 2, Smurfs 2, and others. All 62 episodes of Breaking Bad will be available in 4K on Netflix very soon, allowing fans to enjoy their favorite show in a superior video quality.
"This week Netflix is pleased to begin streaming all 62 episodes of Breaking Bad in UltraHD 4K. Breaking Bad in 4K comes from Sony Pictures Entertainment's beautiful remastering of Breaking Bad from the original negatives. This 4K experience is available on select 4K Smart TVs," Netflix announced in a blog post on Monday, June 16.
"As pleased as I am to announce Breaking Bad in 4K, this blog post is also intended to highlight the collaboration between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Netflix to modernize the digital supply chain that transports digital media from content studios, like Sony Pictures, to streaming retailers, like Netflix," adds the annoucement made by Kevin McEntee, Netflix's vice president of digital supply chain.
Netflix further explains that it has reached an agreement with Sony for an early subset of Interoperable Master Format (IMF) for the video and audio file transfer for Breaking Bad. IMF is an emerging SMPTE specification for file formats and metadata for digital media archiving, as well as B2B exchange.
Breaking Bad has proved to be a widely successful and popular TV show, and virtually everyone has heard of it at this point. It has drawn numerous fans worldwide and has received great praise, and this 4K option was eagerly anticipated for quite some time.
Needless to mention, Breaking Bad fans who want to enjoy watching the TV show in Ultra HD 4K format will need a 4K compatible TV.
For now, 4K TVs are still quite expensive and not many people can afford to make such hefty investments, but they are expected to become more affordable and accessible to more consumers in the future.
