New Asus OnHub router launched by Google

The second of its series, the new OnHub router has just been launched by Google, this time in partnership with Asus. Earlier this year, in August, Google launched its predecessor. The first OnHub router created in partnership with TP-Link was designed to be easier to use and to provide better Wi-Fi signal than its competitors. This new OnHub router still does the same and looks a bit similar having a cylindrical design but includes interesting features.

Some of these features include the gesture recognition or the ability to wave your hand over the OnHub unit to boost the Wi-Fi speed for a specific device connected to it. The new OnHub router also has the ability to select which antenna will be best to send the W-Fi over, this depending on the connected devices' location.

Like the earlier unit, the second OnHub router made by Asus is designed to be displayed out in the open rather than to be hidden away from sight. One of the reasons is because walls and other obstructions can make a difference to a Wi-Fi's signal. With this in mind, Google's router attempts are designed this way. Though there are still limitations on where one can put this router, the design is something that is easy to look at and worthy to be displayed. Add to that the new gesture or motion recognition feature which also encourages users to display it out in the open for easier access.

Another notable feature of this new OnHub router is the ability it gives users to control it through an app, the Google On app. This app can be installed in your own phone or tablet. It is said to be Google's attempts to simplify setting up and using your routers. The router's software updates happen automatically when the network isn't used. Google said that its first rollout will land soon and it should bring a new smart antenna algorithm.
