Google Smartwatch Release Date Confirmed On February 9? Android Wear 2.0, Cellular Connectivity & Digital Crown Among New Features

Two sizes, a digital crown and cellular connectivity are among the top features of the upcoming Google smartwatches. Apart from the noteworthy improvements, the new device is also expected to be packed with Android Wear 2.0 when it hits the road on Feb. 9, 2017.

While still ahead of official announcement from Android Wear 2.0, it seems that Venture Beat's Evan Blass has already unveiled Google's would-be first attempt to capture the smartwatch industry. In about three weeks up ahead, an LG manufactured smartwatch carrying the Google brand will debut together with the new wearable OS.

According to Greenbot, Google Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches will be very much like Apple iWatch that offers two sizes. Google Android Wear 2.0 watches have Sports and Style versions. The former is a larger version with 480x480 display while Style offers 1.2-inch 360x360 display.

In terms of processing power, Google Android Wear 2.0 Sports watch will offer 768MB of RAM while Style has 512MB of memory. The battery power of Sports version is significantly higher as well at 430mAh while its little brother offers 240mAH.

Both versions of Google Android Wear 2.0 watches have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity although the chunkier Sports version offers something more with cellular connectivity. Further, Sports has GPS and NFC. Meaning, Sports version is the only way to go if users want to take advantage of the new Android Pay that comes bundled in Android Wear 2.0.

The biggest feature that Google Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch offers is a digital crown for navigation. Apple iWatch users will find the feature very similar to their units that can deploy a digital assistant in a spin of the dial.

Finally, there is a catch and not all fairy tale. While display, design and other specs of either Google Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches are impressive, they are bulky. Imagine a 14.2mm-thick Sports version. To give smartwatch fans the idea, Samsung Gear S3 comes in at 12.9mm. Of course, there is no contest in the svelte ground when Google Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch is to be compared to 11.4mm Apple iWatch 2.
