Android 4.4.2 KitKat already available for LG G2, coming to Samsung Galaxy Note 3 on T-Mobile
Alexandra BurlacuT-Mobile owners of the LG G2 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 are in for some good news, as Android 4.4 KitKat is bringing a tasty treat.
The latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat is coming to a couple of more devices on the magenta carrier's network. The T-Mobile LG G2 is already set to get its upgrade now, while the carrier's Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is expected to receive the new software goodies the week starting Monday, March 3.
For the LG G2, T-Mobile is yet to release Android 4.4 KitKat as an over-the-air (OTA) update, but the new firmware is nonetheless officially available for download. Even without the OTA from T-Mobile, LG G2 owners can now grab the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat software straight from LG's website. To upgrade your G2 smartphone, simply download the 1.5GB update file at this link, connect your phone to your computer and follow the instructions to install the update through the LG Mobile Support Tool (download the tool here if you don't have it already). The update will bring your T-Mobile LG G2 to software version D80120a, running on the 3.4.0 Kernel.
When it comes to Samsung's latest flagship phablet, the OEM has already released the kernel source for the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the Galaxy Note 3 on its open source page, which in turn allows T-Mobile to release the code to end users through an OTA update. As previously mentioned, the OTA is expected to roll out shortly. While T-Mobile has made no official announcement for the update, carrier turnaround time from OEM release to consumer update is generally pretty quick. Under these circumstances, T-Mobile could announce the update as soon as Monday, March 3, and start rolling it out shortly afterwards. This means that the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 may get the very last version of KitKat within a week.
With the Android 4.4 KitKat for the Galaxy Note 3 just around the corner and the package for the LG G2 already available, KitKat seems to be spreading its deliciousness across increasingly more devices. If you have already downloaded and installed the update on your LG G2, drop by our comment section below and let us know how it fares. The same goes if you receive the update notification for your Galaxy Note 3.
