LG G3 to be dust- and waterproof, boast fingerprint and eye scanners?
Alexandra BurlacuThe upcoming LG G3 is expected to debut in June as the company's 2014 flagship smartphone, and it now seems that it may be both dust- and waterproof.
While other highly-anticipated 2014 flagships have leaked extensively ahead of their official unveiling, the LG G3 is still shrouded in plenty of mystery. A new report, however, now claims that the smartphone powerhouse will be both dust-resistant and waterproof.
Sony was the first one to beef up its devices' durability with the dust- and waterproof capabilities found in its range of Xperia smartphones and tablets, and it has started a whole new trend. Samsung first dipped its toes into this sea with its Galaxy S4 Active spinoff of last year's flagship, and has now taken a real plunge with the new Galaxy S5. The company's latest flagship comes with dust- and water-resistance in the original model of the Galaxy S5, not a more rugged spinoff, and more phone makers are apparently planning to join the party.
There already are several devices on the market that offer more ruggedness, and it looks like LG has similar plans for its next-generation LG G3 flagship.
According to a new report from Korean site ETNews (via GforGames), the upcoming LG G3 will boast some serious improvements. Not only will it be dust- and waterproof, but it will also reportedly boast both a fingerprint scanner and eye-recognition technology. The same was rumored for the Galaxy S5, but Samsung's latest flagship officially debuted with a fingerprint scanner, but no eye-recognition. Some reports claimed that iris-scanning technology was not mature enough for deployment yet, so it remains to be seen whether LG can pull it off.
Rumored LG G3 specs so far include a 5.5-inch QHD display with a whopping resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels, as well as the much-rumored, in-house-developed quad-core LG Odin quad-core processor. The smartphone is also expected to come with a hefty 3GB of RAM.
At this point, however, all of these specs and features are based solely on rumors and speculation, so it is highly advisable to take everything with a grain of salt. We'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more, but remember that nothing is for sure until official confirmation.
