Galaxy K Zoom unveiling: Samsung sends invites for April 29 event to ‘Kapture the Moment’
Alexandra BurlacuSamsung has scheduled a Media Day for April 29, where the company will likely unveil its new camera-centric smartphone, the successor to last year's Galaxy S4 Zoom.
The company did not reveal its exact plans for this media event, but subtle hints in the invite point toward a Galaxy S4 Zoom sequel. The current Samsung Galaxy S5 already has a more powerful camera compared to its predecessor, but rumors nonetheless claimed that a camera-centric model was en route as well. Previous reports suggested that this model would be called the Galaxy K Zoom or Galaxy K, not the S5 Zoom, and Samsung's announcement seems to confirm it.
"Kapture the moment," touts Samsung in the invite, shared via Twitter through its official Samsung Mobile account.
If previous rumors prove to be accurate, the Galaxy S4 Zoom successor may launch as the Galaxy K Zoom or simply the Galaxy K and is expected to bring high-end camera capabilities.
Just recently a leaked image claimed to show the upcoming Galaxy K Zoom, revealing a slimmer design, a curvier body and a big lens on the rear of the device. Despite the slight reduction in the size of the smartphone, the handset's camera is still expected to deliver 10x optical zoom.
The Galaxy K Zoom is further rumored to boast a 20-megapixel rear camera and a Xenon flash, but it may sport a smaller display compared to the Galaxy S5 flagship. The Zoom model may shrink the screen size to 4.7 or 4.9 inches and offer only 720p resolution. Other rumored specs include a hexa-core Samsung Exynos processor instead of a quad-core chip, paired with 2GB of RAM.
A Samsung handset with model number SM-C115 recently dropped by the FCC as well and it's widely expected to be the Galaxy S5 Zoom, or Galaxy K Zoom. The FCC listing confirmed that the handset will have 4G LTE and NFC connectivity and suggested that it was ready for an imminent debut.
While Samsung did not specifically announce plans to launch a camera-centric variant of the Galaxy S5 flagship, chances are we'll see a new Samsung camera smartphone very soon. The company's April 29 event is just a couple of weeks away and we'll hear all about it straight from the source. We'll be covering the event and bring you the latest news as soon as they become available, so stay tuned.
