Is this the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini spotted as the Dx?
Alexandra BurlacuSamsung is widely expected to launch a smaller version of its latest flagship soon, and a new leak may give us the first look at the Galaxy S5 Mini.
The 'Mini' trend seems to be going strong and enjoying great momentum still, with plenty of handset makers launching large flagships followed by smaller variants. Samsung was at the root of this whole trend, and the company is expected to continue with this strategy this year and offer a more compact version of its new Galaxy S5 smartphone.
The latest leak comes from well-known tipster @evleaks, who has proved to be accurate countless times in the past when leaking yet-to-be-announced devices. It's worth pointing out, however, that @evleaks received this poor-quality screenshot as a tip, and there's no guarantee that it's the real deal.
Presuming that no one tampered with the URL seen in the screenshot, the device in question has model number SM-G800, which was previously associated with the rumored Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini. The screenshot further shows that Samsung may ditch the "Mini" moniker and launch the smaller version as the "Galaxy S5 Dx." The handset will reportedly come in more color options, adding lime and orange paint jobs to the black, blue, and white versions currently available for the flagship Galaxy S5.
The purported Samsung Galaxy S5 Dx, or Mini, seems to sport a very similar design to its larger sibling, with one notable absence: the heart rate monitor on the rear of the device. Considering that Samsung's Mini smartphones usually come in the mid-range sector, however, it wouldn't be much of a surprise if it didn't have the heart rate monitor.
When it comes to specifications, earlier leaks suggested that the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini will sport a 4.5-inch 720p AMOLED display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and Android 4.4 KitKat on board.
Currently no information is available regarding the launch date of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Dx, or Mini, but it shouldn't take too long before the device makes its official debut. As always, take all leaks, rumors, and speculation with a grain of salt. We'll bring you the latest details as soon as Samsung confirms it, so stay tuned.
