Motorola Moto X to come in 64GB model soon?
Alexandra BurlacuMotorola's Moto X has popped up online in a new configuration, as it was spotted sporting a larger-capacity 64B model.
Ever since it made its official debut, the Moto X has been available only in two storage configurations - 16GB and 32GB. In fact, some countries outside the U.S. didn't even get the chance to choose the 32GB version, as they were left to settle for the 16GB model.
While speculation is ripe regarding Motorola's next-generation Moto X+1, it now seems that the company still has a surprise in store for the current Moto X. Motorola is apparently planning a slight refresh with more internal storage capacity, suggesting that there is demand for a larger capacity version at least in its home country.
Russian website Mobiltelefon has managed to grab a screenshot of the Moto Maker page when it showed a 64GB Moto X model. As you can see in the image above, that variant was listed with a $449.99 price tag. That price is $100 higher than that of the 16GB, but the extra storage makes it worth it. As expected, the price is for the contract-free smartphone.
Motorola has since taken down that listing, leaving no trace of the 64GB Moto X. Nevertheless, this option is expected to become available sometime in the near future.
It remains unclear just when Motorola plans on announcing this new Moto X model, especially now that all eyes are on its successor, the Moto X+1. When it does make its official debut, the 64GB Moto X should become available on all major carriers in the U.S. so interested buyers can choose to buy it subsidized if they so prefer.
As a reminder, the Moto X is not the highest-end smartphone out there, but it did stir a lot of interest due to its unprecedented and unparalleled customization options. Although it is mid-range, the smartphone is also quite decent in terms of software and hardware specifications.
Its Touchless Control, Active Display and other software features have received high praise, while its unique X8 mobile computing system offers great performance. This mobile computing system consists of a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a quad-core graphics processing unit (GPU), as well as two separate cores designed to boost efficiency.
Other specs include a 4.7-inch display with an HD resolution, 2GB of RAM, a 10-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,200 mAh battery. Connectivity options consist of 4G LTE, HSPA+, Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth. On the software side, the smartphone runs Android 4.4 KitKat.
As previously mentioned, the Moto X is available in 16GB and 32GB internal storage configurations, with no microSD card slot for additional memory. The lack of expandable storage may be a big drawback for storage-hungry users, but a larger-capacity 64GB model should fix this issue.
Nothing is official at this point, but we'll make sure to keep you up to date as soon as Motorola starts offering the 64GB Moto X.
