Samsung Galaxy Tab S pre-orders to start on June 13?
Alexandra BurlacuThe much-rumored Samsung Galaxy Tab S may be ready to make its commercial debut as soon as next week, if a new leak proves to be accurate.
Samsung is holding a press event in New York City on Thursday, June 12, where the company is widely expected to take the wraps off its highly-anticipated Galaxy Tab S tablet duo.
It now seems that at least one retailer will start taking pre-orders for the Galaxy Tab S the very next day, i.e. on Friday, June 13. The Galaxy Tab S tablets will apparently hit retail on Sunday, June 27. Samsung usually takes its time and makes its products available a good while after it officially unveils them, but that doesn't exclude the possibility of a prompter commercial availability. HTC made its One M8 flagship immediately available, and Samsung may choose to follow the same route.
The news comes from well-known tipster @evleaks, who posted a photo of an inventory listing at an unnamed retailer. The listing in question mentions the June 13 pre-order date for the Galaxy Tab S, with a June 27 availability.
Samsung said that it will focus more of its efforts on tablets in 2014, and so far the company has already launched several slates. Nevertheless, more Samsung tablets are expected to make their way to the market, and the Galaxy Tab S should be the next in line.
The company is expected to launch two versions of the rumored Galaxy Tab S, one with an 8.4-inch display and the other with a larger 10.5-inch screen. Both models will reportedly feature a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, and an octa-core Samsung Exynos 5420 processor clocked at 1.9GHz will allegedly fire things up.
Other rumored specs for these two Galaxy Tab S models include 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage capacity, and micro SD card slots for additional storage. Both slates will reportedly have 8-megapixel rear cameras and 2-megapixel front shooters. On the software side, the tablets are expected to run Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box.
None of these specs are official at this point, so it is highly advisable to take everything with a grain of salt for now. Although @evleaks has a great track record when it comes to leaking yet-to-be-announced devices and plans in the tech world, it's always best to maintain a dose of skepticism until official confirmation.
With Samsung's June 12 event just a few days away, however, we'll soon know all about it straight from the source. We'll be covering the event and bring you the latest news as soon as they become available, so stay tuned.
