Galaxy Tab S breaks cover with Super AMOLED greatness: All you need to know about Samsung’s ‘best tablet ever’
Alexandra BurlacuSamsung has officially taken the wraps off its much-rumored Galaxy Tab S, unveiling two powerful tablets with top-notch Super AMOLED displays.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S tablets leaked so extensively as of late that we already knew pretty much everything about them before they became official, but it's nonetheless good to have the full details straight from the source.
As expected, the Galaxy Tab S lineup consists of two models - one with an 8.4-inch screen and the other with a larger 10.5-inch displays. Both models boast Super AMOLED displays with a high-resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and Samsung claim they provide notably superior visuals compared to LCD.
"The tablet is becoming a popular viewing device for enjoying content, which makes the quality of the display a critical feature," boasted JK Shin, CEO and President of Samsung Electronics IT & Mobile Division. "With the launch of the Galaxy Tab S, Samsung is getting the industry bar higher for the entire mobile industry. It will provide consumers with a visual and entertainment experience that brings colors to life, beautifully packaged in a sleek and ultra-portable mobile device."
"Galaxy Tab S, the world's first high-resolution Super AMOLED tablet, is Samsung's best tablet ever," adds Michael Abary, Samsung Electronics America Senior Vice President.
"Producing innovative displays that immerse and captivate is part of our DNA. So we're leveraging our core competency in display technology to create a new personal visual device optimized for delivering the ultimate viewing experience."
Other than the different screen sizes, the two Galaxy Tab S models are identical in terms of specs. The slates come with either an octa-core Samsung Exynos 5420 processor or a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset clocked at 2.3GHz, 3GB of RAM, and a built-in fingerprint reader. Other specs include either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage capacity, a microSD card slot for additional memory of up to 128GB, an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and a 2.1-megapixel front shooter.
Both Galaxy Tab S models will be available in Wi-Fi and LTE versions, and will come in Titanium Bronze and Dazzling White color options. The Wi-Fi models will go on sale in July in the U.S., while the LTE variants will follow shortly after. In terms of pricing, the 8.4-inch model will start at $399, while the 10.5-inch variant will start at $499. Check out the video below to learn more about the new Galaxy Tab S.
