Apple pushing iPhone 6 payment system with American Express, Visa, MasterCard deals
Alexandra BurlacuApple reportedly has a payment system in place for its upcoming iPhone 6 and the company has already secured deals with big players in this regards.
The iPhone 6 is one of the most highly-anticipated devices of this year and is expected to pack a lot of improvements compared to its predecessor, including a new payment system that would make things easier, more convenient and more secure.
Apple has a launch event scheduled for Sept. 9, where it is widely expected to take the wraps off at least one model of the iPhone 6. The new payment system is among the highlights of the new-generation smartphone, and now more information is available in this regards.
First, Re/Code reported that Apple is indeed planning to unveil a digital payment system for the iPhone 6 on Sept. 9, allowing users to make secure transactions via their smartphone. The publication revealed that Apple had inked deal with American Express. In a separate report shortly after, Bloomberg further claimed that Apple signed similar deals with Visa and MasterCard as well. Re/Code had mentioned that American Express was just one of several partners, but did not reveal who else might be on board.
Such deals not only point to a more convenient way to make secure transactions via the iPhone, but also confirm previous rumors that the iPhone 6 will finally support NFC. Apple has so far used Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for short-range wireless functions, and even made a combination of the two technologies, known as iBeacon. Nevertheless, as NFC gained ground and became an important function for today's high-end devices, Apple was expected to join the bandwagon and implement the technology in its iPhone too.
On the other hand, rumors of NFC technology in iPhones have been making rounds for a long time and always surface ahead of a big device launch, yet nothing materialized so far. While more signs now point in this direction, there's still no guarantee at this point that the iPhone 6 will indeed come with NFC support.
It all remains in the rumor state until Apple makes an official announcement, so it is advisable to take such reports with a grain of salt for now. With Apple's Sept. 9 launch event just around the corner, we'll soon learn all there is to know about the next-generation iPhone 6 straight from the source.
