HTC Nexus 9 confirmed to come in 3Q with NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor
Alexandra BurlacuSome legal documents from NVIDIA have confirmed the existence of the Nexus 9, revealing that it will indeed come from HTC and launch in the third quarter of this year.
Here's the deal: NVIDIA has recently taken engaged in a legal battle, alleging that both Qualcomm and Samsung are infringing on its GPU patents. The document referencing Google's upcoming Nexus tablet in collaboration with HTC was uncovered by the Bright Side of News, and is basically a corporate confirmation of the Nexus 9. The publication's sources pointed to a revealing sentence in the document, which went unnoticed until now. Mentioning several devices using its Tegra K1, NVIDIA leaks exciting info.
"NVIDIA's new Tegra K1 mobile processor is so powerful it is being used in products other than smartphones and tablets. Acer is using NVIDIA's new Tegra K1 processor in its Chromebook personal computer, and the Tegra K1 is also used in Lenovo's Terminator S9, a 50 inch 4K Smart TV. Exhibit 59. The Tegra K1 also powers Google's new Project Tango Development Kit, a tablet computer that will enable users to track and map 3D environments by making over a quarter million 3D measurements every second, giving mobile devices a human-scale understanding of space and motion. The HTC Nexus 9, expected in the third quarter of 2014, is also expected to use the Tegra K1."
In other words, NVIDIA not only confirmed the existence of the much-rumored HTC Nexus 9 tablet, but it also revealed that the slate will pack a powerful Tegra K1 processor and it will make its debut very soon. At the same time, it also confirms the name of the slate, as previous rumors have also referred to it as the Nexus 8.
No other details are available at this point, but if Google does indeed plan to introduce its new HTC Nexus 9 tablet in the third quarter of this year, more information should surface shortly. The presence of the NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor indicates that the slate will pack top-notch specs and features, which may bolster previous rumors that it will come with premium pricing.
