ZTE ZMAX budget-friendly $252 Android KitKat phablet hits T-Mobile on Sept. 24
Alexandra BurlacuChinese smartphone maker ZTE is bolstering its U.S. presence with a new 5.7-inch phablet called the ZMAX, which will launch exclusively on T-Mobile on Sept. 24.
The new ZTE ZMAX is an LTE-enabled device with good specifications for the mid-range category, and will be available for an attractive price of just $252, or $10.50 per month on a two-year subscription plan with T-Mobile. With the ZMAX phablet, ZTE aims to deliver a mid-range smartphone with some premium features and a budget-friendly price tag.
"The ZMAX is the latest example of ZTE designing devices with the user in mind. It has more battery life more screen and more style but it does not cost you more," Lixin Cheng, chairman and CEO of ZTE USA, touts in the press release. "When customers see the unique look of ZTE smartphones and the technology, they are surprised our phones are a third of the cost of mainstream brands. We think the ZMAX is going to be a great addition to T-Mobile's Un-carrier proposition and we are excited to have the ZMAX on their network."
"ZTE's ZMAX combines the latest technology with distinctive design to give our customers an incredibly affordable large screen smartphone," adds Jason Young, Senior Vice President of Marketing at T-Mobile. "And on T-Mobile's fastest nationwide LTE network with Wi-Fi Un-leashed and Simple Global, you've got worldwide coverage the old carriers can't begin to match."
The ZTE ZMAX sports a 5.7-inch TFT LCD display with an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 and packs a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor under the hood. Other specs include 16GB of internal storage capacity, microSD support for additional memory of up to 32GB, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.6-megapixel front shooter. According to ZTE, the phablet's large battery will deliver two days of battery life on a single charge. On the software side, the ZMAX runs Android 4.4 KitKat.
As previously mentioned, the ZTE ZMAX will be available exclusively through T-Mobile in the U.S. The smartphone will launch on Sept. 4 at participating T-Mobile retail locations, as well as T-Mobile.com, for $0 down and $10.50 per month for 24 months. Moreover, MetroPCS will also start carrying the device later this year, but no exact date is available at this time.
