Sony Xperia Z3 Compact listed on U.S. Sony Mobile Store, ‘Buy Now’ button lies
Alexandra BurlacuThe much-touted Sony Xperia Z3 Compact is getting ready for its commercial debut in the U.S., as the smartphone now appears the company's website.
The whole "Mini" smartphone trend caught on in recent years, with an increasing number of companies launching high-end flagships, followed by smaller versions called "Mini." While most of these devices come with watered-down specifications, Sony revolutionized the whole trend with its Xperia Z1 Compact, which made very little compromises in terms of specs despite its smaller form factor.
An Xperia Z2 Compact was widely expected but never came, as the company jumped straight to the Xperia Z3 Compact. As the name itself suggests, the handset is a smaller version of the flagship Xperia Z3, but it nonetheless packs powerful specifications and neat features.
Just recently we heard that the flagship Xperia Z3 is ready to launch in the U.S. on both T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless, with the latter selling the handset as the Xperia Z3v. When it comes to the Xperia Z3 Compact, however, things are not as clear.
Sony has yet to announce whether any U.S. carrier will be offering its smaller Xperia Z3 Compact, but the company has now listed the device on its U.S. website, which suggests that a commercial debut is just around the corner.
This means that even if the handset will not be available subsidized, and we don't know that for sure yet, interested customers in the U.S. will still be able to purchase the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact directly from Sony.
As a reminder, the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact comes with a 4.6-inch display with an HD resolution of 1920 x 720 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage capacity, expandable via microSD.
Other specs include a high-end 20.7-megapixel Sony Exmor R rear camera, a 2.2-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,600 mAh battery, while the latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat rocks the software side.
Sony's U.S. online store is listing the Xperia Z3 Compact as available, complete with a "Buy Now" button, and interested buyers can choose between white, black, orange, and green color options. On the other hand, although the smartphone seems to be available on the Sony Mobile Store, clicking the "Buy Now" button redirects you to the Sony eShop, and doesn't actually allow you to make a purchase.
It remains unclear for now just when Sony plans to actually start selling the Xperia Z3 Compact in the U.S., but the listing on its website suggests that it shouldn't be too long now.
