LG G Pad 10.1 LTE drops by FCC with support for Verizon bands
Alexandra BurlacuAn LTE-flavored version of the LG G Pad 10.1 tablet is apparently headed to Verizon Wireless in the U.S., according to a new FCC filing.
LG entered joined the tablet race earlier this year with its new G Pad series of slates, consisting of three models with 7-, 8-, and 10.1-inch displays. All three LG G Pad variants made their initial debut in Wi-Fi-only flavors, but the company said it would release LTE models as well, at a later date.
It now seems that at least one LTE flavor is in tow for an imminent launch, as the LG G Pad 10.1 has passed through the FCC with compatibility for Verizon's LTE bands in the U.S.
As usual with FCC documents, this listing suggests that the LG G Pad 10.1 LTE will make its way to Verizon's network soon, but the filing doesn't actually reveal the launch date. Nevertheless, the FCC certification indicates that this model should join Big Red's lineup by the end of the year, likely in time for the lucrative holiday shopping season.
Other than the LTE connectivity, the LG G Pad 10.1 is expected to remain unchanged in terms of hardware specifications. As a reminder, the tablet comes with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and packs a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor under the hood, clocked at 1.2GHz and paired with Adreno 305 graphics and 1GB of RAM.
Other specs of the LG G Pad 10.1 include 16GB of internal storage capacity, microSD card support for additional memory of up to 64GB, a 5-megapixel rear camera, and a 1.3-megapixel front shooter. On the software side, the original model of the tablet came with Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, but Verizon's LTE-enabled version of the slate may come with a more recent version of the software.
Verizon made no official announcement so far and it remains unclear at this point just when the LTE-flavored LG G Pad 10.1 will hit its network, but this FCC listing suggests that it shouldn't be too long now. We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information surfaces regarding the tablet's launch, price, and availability, so stay tuned.
