Microsoft's new Windows 10 event is about to kick off shortly, and interested parties will be able to watch the whole thing live.

On Wednesday, Jan. 21, Microsoft will finally unveil the consumer experience of Windows 10, offering more details regarding what the new OS version has to bring to the table.

Microsoft first announced its new Windows 10 back in September, but at the time it focused mostly on the business features of the OS. The company said at the time that it will offer details on the consumer experience at a later event, and the time has now come for the highly anticipated consumer preview.

The new Windows 10 is expected to roll out by the end of this year and come as the greatest change the platform has seen in years. While Windows 8 aimed to spice things up by changing some features, it was widely criticized and many compared it to the previous Windows Vista failure. The subsequent Windows 8.1 addressed some of the issues of Windows 8, but similarly failed to see a very wide adoption.

Windows 10 now aims to bring notable improvements on all fronts, as well as unify Microsoft's platform to offer one OS for all, from desktop to mobile and the Xbox. Microsoft wants to enable the development of apps that would work on tablets, phones, and PCs alike, instead of being optimized for just one form factor, which should significantly improve the app ecosystem especially for Windows Phone.

At the same time, Windows 10 is expected to come with a new Start menu, a new browser codenamed Spartan, and better integration into the Windows Phone and Xbox platforms, among the highlights. Moreover, the new OS version will reportedly bring Microsoft's Cortana to the desktop, which would mark the first time such a digital assistant escapes the mobile sector.

The imminent Windows 10 event is expected to offer more details on all these exciting features and others, and Microsoft should also unveil some new hardware to go along with the latest OS.

Those of you who cannot attend the Jan. 21 Windows 10 event in person can watch the whole thing at this link, as Microsoft will live-stream the event starting at 9:00 AM PT/ 12:00 PM ET. The company will also add a full video of the event at the same link after the event is over.
