Verizon HTC One M8, M7 should get Android 5.0 Lollipop in early March
Alexandra BurlacuThe Verizon HTC One M8 and One M7 are in for a neat treat, as the Android 5.0 Lollipop update should arrive in early March.
Android 5.0 Lollipop started its journey to devices a while ago, but carrier versions typically take longer to receive new updates because the certification process takes time. Among U.S. carriers, Verizon Wireless is notorious for having a rigorous certification process, which more often than not means that Big Red is dragging its feet when it comes to delivering updates.
Nevertheless, Verizon recently updated its Samsung Galaxy S5 to Android 5.0 Lollipop, and it now looks like the HTC One M8 and One M7 could be next in line. When asked about the Verizon HTC One M8 Lollipop rollout, HTC's Mo Versi replied that the update is currently undergoing lab testing and should receive approval in the first week of March.
Moreover, another user asked the executive when the Verizon HTC One M7 would receive the Lollipop treat, and Mo Versi said it should be in the "same timeframe." This means that both the HTC One M8 and One M7 on Verizon should receive Android 5.0 Lollipop in early March, if everything goes smoothly.
HTC has set up a software update page for a good while now, allowing users to check the progress of the Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout for select devices. According to this page, the Lollipop update is complete for the T-Mobile and Sprint HTC One M8, while the Verizon and AT&T versions are in the certification and integration stage, respectively. In other words, Verizon will be the next U.S. carrier to push out Android 5.0 Lollipop to its HTC One M8, while AT&T will be the last.
T-Mobile and Sprint, for their part, have already rolled out Android 5.0 Lollipop to their versions of the HTC One M8, and Sprint also updated its One M7.
No official rollout date is available at this point for when Verizon will start the Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA rollout for its HTC One M8 and One M7, but it looks like the update should arrive in early March for both handsets. We'll keep you up to date as soon as more details become available, so stay tuned.
