Verizon LG G3, AT&T and T-Mobile LG G2 get Android 5.0 Lollipop
Alexandra BurlacuThe Verizon-branded LG G3 is officially getting a taste of Android 5.0 Lollipop now, as the carrier has finally started rolling out the update.
The next-generation LG G4 set to debut later this month, on April 28, has drawn most of the attention lately, but the older-generation models are not to be forgotten either. A software update is always welcome, and we now have some good news.
The LG G3 first started getting Lollipop in the U.S. more than three months ago, when AT&T started pushing the update to its version of the handset. Verizon Wireless, however, is notorious for dragging its feet and taking its sweet time when it comes to delivering updates.
Nevertheless, the Verizon-branded LG G3 is now finally getting the update, as Big Red has officially started rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop for the handset. The last major version of Android brings a slew of neat features and improvements to the table, as well as a fresh design for a better visual experience. Lollipop treats include Material Design elements, interactive and customizable lock screen notifications, Smart Lock, Priority Mode, Trusted Device, floating action buttons, battery life optimizations, enhanced security, and a number of other neat goodies.
Verizon announced that it has already started rolling out the LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update over the air (OTA), but it could take a few days to reach all devices. OTA updates always roll out in stages and not all devices get them at the same time.
In addition to the LG G3 on Verizon, the older LG G2 is also getting a taste of Android 5.0 Lollipop on T-Mobile and AT&T in the U.S. Both carriers started upgrading their respective LG G2 models on Tuesday, April 14, and the update should gradually hit wider availability soon. AT&T said it is updating its LG G2 to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, while T-Mobile announced it is rolling out the slightly improved Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.
As with the Verizon LG G3 update, the AT&T and T-Mobile LG G2 updates will also require patience, as it will take a while to reach all devices.
If you have already received Android 5.0 Lollipop on your LG G3 on Verizon or LG G2 on AT&T or T-Mobile, drop by our comment section below and tell us how it fares. If you have yet to get the treat, rest assured that it's on its way.
