U.S. Cellular Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge get Android 5.0.1 Lollipop
Alexandra BurlacuSamsung Galaxy Note 4 or Galaxy Note Edge owners on U.S. Cellular are in for some good news, as the carrier has started rolling out Android 5.0.1 Lollipop.
Both the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 flagship phablet and the curved-display Galaxy Note Edge variant have proved to be quite successful worldwide, but some owners of the devices were still waiting for a software update.
While some versions of the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge already received the treat a while ago, other versions are just now getting the update. It may be a bit later than others, but U.S. Cellular has officially started rolling out the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge.
The update is now rolling out over the air (OTA) to the two devices, but customers can also download the firmware through the Samsung Kies desktop software if they prefer to upgrade their handsets like this.
Android 5.0.1 Lollipop will bring a number of neat improvements and changes, as well as some much-touted new features, aiming to enhance the overall experience and maximize the devices' performance. Lollipop highlights include Material Design elements for fresher, more pleasant visuals and fluid animations, a revamped multitasking interface, enhanced lock screen notifications, battery life optimizations, improved security features, and many, many more.
"The AndroidTM Operating System is fast, intuitive, and has a familiar feel with the integration of popular GoogleTM services. To get more out of your Android experience you can now upgrade your device to the latest version of the Android operating system," touts U.S. Cellular.
The updates are quite hefty, and it's recommended to upgrade the handsets over a reliable Wi-Fi network. At the same time, make sure your device has plenty of battery life left so the process goes smoothly, without interruptions. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 update on U.S. Cellular carries base band version N910R4TYU1BOC4, while the Galaxy Note Edge one is N915R4TYU1BOC5.
Keep in mind that the update process unfolds in phases and it may take a few days for all devices to get the latest treat. The update is nonetheless on its way, so it should arrive shortly if it hasn't already.
