BlackBerry Oslo leaks as Passport successor with similar specs, design
Alexandra BurlacuBlackBerry is apparently gearing up to launch another intriguing smartphone, as an unannounced BlackBerry Oslo handset has now leaked online.
Not too long ago, BlackBerry drew lots of attention with its oddly-shaped BlackBerry Passport, a square-ish smartphone with a touch screen display and a three-row keyboard. The company probably considered the option of launching a sequel to the BlackBerry Passport, and the newly-leaked BlackBerry Oslo might be just that.
The purported smartphone is shaping up as a refreshed version of the square BlackBerry Passport, coming up as its successor. The folks over at BlackBerry Central have obtained some information regarding this purported BlackBerry Oslo and have posted details on the smartphone's specs, as well as an image allegedly showing its design.
According to the leak, the BlackBerry Oslo will sport mainly the same hardware specifications as the BlackBerry Passport, i.e. a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, an LCD display with a resolution of 1440 x 140 pixels, a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), and a 3,450 mAh battery to keep things up and running.
BlackBerry Central further adds that all of these specifications, as well as others that have not been disclosed yet, are still subject to change and might improve by the time the device is ready to hit the market.
The purported BlackBerry Oslo may reportedly make its official debut on June 30 and is expected to arrive as a device for the global market. The publication also claims that the Canadian company already unveiled its BlackBerry Oslo very quietly, only to a select audience, back at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 last month in Barcelona, and the June 30 unveiling would be for the general public.
It remains to be seen whether BlackBerry indeed plans to launch this purported Oslo handset as the successor to the BlackBerry Passport, and, if so, just what specifications the new handset will have to offer.
The company has made no official statement so far in this regards, and it all remains in the rumor state at this point. As always in such cases, it is highly recommended to take all leaks, rumors, and reports with a hefty grain of salt. We'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more, so stay tuned.
