According to the latest reports, the Taiwanese electronics company, HTC, is trying to enter into the offline market zone with its new Vive VR headsets. The reports suggest that the users can now directly visit their nearby HTC official partner stores to get a demo and buy the VR headset. HTC has also promised its customers that if they buy the Vive virtual-reality headset online, it would be shipped at their doorstep within 72 hours.
Euro Gamer reported that that the HTC Vive VR headset is available for demo in selected retail outlets like Microsoft stores, GameStop and Micro Center locations. The reports also suggest that by the end of June, HTC will make its Vive VR headset available in around 100 retail locations in North America.
Further, there are reports that Microsoft will expand its HTC Vive VR headset demo store locations from 29 to 151. Also, Venture Beat reported that even GameStop is expected to increase its demo store locations from 10 to 40.
In addition, HTC's vice president of VR, Dan O'Brien, recently commented about the company's strategy to focus more on the retail expansion side. "Since beginning preorders at the end of February and shipping in early April, we've seen incredible interest in Vive," said Dan, as reported by PC Advisor. "Working with our retail partners has only enhanced that momentum because more people are able to try the only truly immersive virtual reality offering on the market today."
Meanwhile, 9 to 5 Google reported that HTC Vive VR gaming platform is for those customers segments who like to try different small games instead of just a huge single game.
The HTC Vive VR headset is currently priced for $799. The whole headset package is reported to consist of an adjustable headset, two wireless controllers with HD feedback and 360-degree motion tracking functionality.
Additionally, the reports suggestws that HTC is currently providing demos of games like Budget Cuts, the Brookhaven Experiment, Rescuties and Tilt brush. It is reported that Budget Cuts is a stealth teleportation game about throwing knives at the robots so that the player's job application gets approved. On the other hand, the Brookhaven Experiments' is an intense survival game in VR with limited ammo.
