Facebook Executives: Social Media Will Be "All-Video, No Text" In 5 Years?
Eve CesistaFacebook has been one of the phenomenal social media platforms that hit the Internet. Most of the people are able to express themselves by writing statuses, but executives are reportedly saying that Facebook will be "all video and no text in the next 5 years."
CEO Mark Zuckerberg noted that video will be more important in the upcoming years. On the other hand, newly appointed VP for (EMEA) Europe, the Middle East and Africa Nicola Mendelsohn further stated that posting written words on Facebook might be obsolete.
"The best way to tell stories in this world, where so much information is coming at us, actually is video," Mendelsohn said, quotes Quartz. "Facebook will be definitely mobile, it will be probably all video."
"It conveys so much more information in a much quicker period. So actually the trend helps us to digest much more information," the VP continued.
Furthermore, she discussed that 360 video has becoming common and the texts are slowly disappearing that is why they are allegedly predicting to shift Facebook into a video-oriented social media platform. The change is said to be brought by the number of users who post and watch clips.
However, Mendelsohn made it clear that it will not be opted out entirely. "You'll have to write for the video," she assured the audience during her speech.
The reaction of the public looks like far-fetched from the results that the executives are talking about. An individual posted his comment on Slashdot, stating that it could be the end of Facebook's popularity.
"The day Facebook is all video is the day their user base starts to drop," as quoted. This might happen in the future, but tech websites among others can only speculate what would the executives do for the betterment of Facebook and other platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, etc.
