'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' News: Nintendo Gets Help From 'Xenoblade' Devs
Jazz RosinThe developers of "Xenoblade Chronicles X" are giving Nintendo a hand with its latest title "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild."
Nintendo announced its new "Zelda" title at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, and has garnered a lot of positive responses from hardcore fans and gamers alike.
Game creator Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that Monolith Soft, the game studio responsible for "Xenosaga" and "Project X Zone," is involved in the making of "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild."
In an interview with Game Informer, Miyamoto confirmed that over a hundred Monolith Soft employees from both the Kyoto and Tokyo branch are helping out with the project.
The game director did not confirm exactly what Monolith Soft is working on specifically, but the studio might have had a hand at "Breath of the Wild"'s massive open world.
Gamespot reported that the developer has a history of large open worlds so this might be what Monolith is bringing to the game.
In a previous Game Informer interview, Monolith Studio directors Tetsuya Takahashi and Genki Yokota has expressed their interest in helping out with the latest "Zelda" title. Monolith has also helped with the 2011 Wii title "The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" so this comes as no surprise.
On Monolith's relationship with Nintendo, Takahashi said, "Whenever we're not busy with our own projects, we have the opportunity to help out with some of the projects that are being developed at Nintendo. A recent example of this is Splatoon."
Apart from "Skyward Sword" and "Splatoon," Monolith Studios has also helped with other Nintendo titles like "Pikmin 3" and "Animal Crossing: New Leaf."
Monolith Studio's "Xenoblade Chronicles X" got generally favorable reviews on review score aggregator Metacritic. The game was praised for its massive open world and character development.
"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" will be released for Wii U and Nintendo NX in 2017.
