'Assassin's Creed' Movie: Everything We Know So Far; Michael Fassbender's Link To The Game Version
Jazz RosinThe movie for the highly successful "Assassin's Creed" franchise is coming out soon. Fans and critics around the world cannot wait to finally see the video game adaptation on the big screen.
Let's do a quick rundown of what we know so far about this movie.
Cast and Crew
The "Assassin's Creed" movie is put together by some of Hollywood's best actors and directors. Oscar-nominated Michael Fassbender ("X-men: Apocalypse", "Macbeth") and Marion Cottilard ("Inception", "The Dark Knight Rises") get the lead roles as Callum Lynch / Aguilar and Dr. Sophia Rikkin, respectively.
Jeremy Irons, who is the voice of Scar in "The Lion King," is also in the movie as Abstergo CEO Alan Rikkin, and also the father of Sophia.
Justin Kurzel, whom Fassbender and Cottilard both worked with in "Macbeth," takes the director's chair for "Assassin's Creed."
Ubisoft is also heavily involved in the production of the movie, working hard to keep creative control over the project, according to Digital Spy.
The Story and Its Connection to the "Assassin's Creed" Games
The story will feature a complete set of characters not seen on previous "Assassin's Creed" games.
The movie will follow the story of career criminal Callum Lynch, who was taken by Abstergo to participate in the Animus Project. Callum's ancestor is named Aguilar de Nerha, an assassin during the Spanish Inquisition.
When asked why the movie will not feature any characters from the "Assassin's Creed" games, executive Pat Crowley explained, "We essentially did them all on our own because we wanted to have an original script."
"It's a movie that's based on the game, but it's not a movie that is the game." Crowley added.
Fassbender, who is also an executive producer in the movie, said that while the movie will not feature characters from the game, he still wants to bring some of "Assassin's Creed" elements into the film, IGN reported.
"You know, we absolutely want to respect the game," Fassbender said. "There's so much cool stuff in the game that we're actually spoiled for choice in terms of what we can use and what we can't."
"But we also want to bring new elements to it and perhaps our own version of things that already exist in the game." the lead actor added.
Aguilar will be parkouring his way to the theaters when the "Assassin's Creed" movie opens on December 21.
