Is Nintendo NX Adding VR Before Its Release Date? Mobile Gaming Controller In The Works
Shilpa ChakravortyWithin five gaming apps planned for release by March 2017, it is clear that Nintendo has something up its sleeve for the gaming industry, including the company creating its own mobile gaming controller.
Until now Nintendo's mobile developments include social media communication app Miitomo, and yet to be released versions of "Animal Crossing" and "Fire Emblem." However, none of these developments requires controller support.
Thus, when asked if Nintendo has plans for launching a physical controller and invest in new titles, Nintendo's President mentioned that Nintendo is currently researching VR technologies, reported Tom's Hardware.
"We are well aware that other companies are developing games and game-related products using VR technologies, and that consumers are interested in all of this. I cannot say anything specific at this time, but understand that we also consider VR to be a promising technology, and we are conducting research with much interest," said Kimishima.
Moreover, according to statements from Nintendo's Senior Managing Director Shigeru Miyamoto, the company is also investing into AR. "As for VR, we are researching not just VR, but AR and many other technologies," he said.
Users have always speculated if Nintendo will be launching a new NX console, and Hirokazu Shinshi, the General Manager of the Manufacturing Division, has cleared this.
"We are now preparing to manufacture NX and hashing out details like the extent of automation. We hope to create the optimal production environment," said Shinshi.
Incidentally, this is not the first time Nintendo has focused on VR since E3. However, they appeared to rule out virtual reality as a concept for its next console, the NX.
With Sony releasing its PlayStation in VR in October and Microsoft bringing virtual reality with Project Scorpio, it seems that Nintendo needs to bring out the big guns to survive the changes of gaming world.
