Nintendo NX: Cancelled NVIDIA Shield Tablet Upgrade Due To Possible Competition?
C. de LacyAs Nintendo NX release looms around the corner, NVIDIA took the necessary sacrifice of dropping the plans for the Shield Tablet to make way for Nintendo.
Nvidia recently announced in an FCC filing that the supposedly upgrade for the latest Shield Tablet is going to be canceled and according to the company, this will be for "business reason."
No particular information was disclosed to the public regarding the cancellation of the planned upgrade for the tablet, but some clues show that the cancellation was strongly influenced by the upcoming Nintendo NX release which comes around a few months after the cancellation date.
The Nintendo NX has the same hardware with the purportedly Nvidia Shiled Tablet. Both devices are intended mainly for gaming, and the company's cancellation of the latter might be needed to avoid unnecessary competition between two companies that share the same technology and hardware.
It was rumored before that Nintendo NX will be powered by the AMD, but instead, the company decided to go with Nvidia's Tegra capabilities instead as the rumors and recent leaks suggested.
It may be a sad news for those who have always owned and upgraded their Nvidia Shield Tablets, but on a business perspective for the company, this would be the wisest decision.
Nvidia made some serious effort to penetrate the console gaming business, but the attempt didn't yield all the greatest results. It was due to the limited availability for the games available, the unusually high price tag and the less than reliable battery.
Nintendo may be able to turn the tables for both itself and Nvidia with the said partnership.
The Nintendo NX is expected to be released in March next year and is expected to also sport features like Augmented Reality as well as being a hybrid T.V console / handheld.
Stay tuned for more news and updates about the Nintendo NX.
