'Batman: The Telltale Series': Is The Season Pass Disc A Wrong Move For Telltale?
Jazz RosinTelltale Games' latest storytelling masterpiece "Batman: The Telltale Series" was well received by critics and fans alike, but most people think that the developer is releasing the physical version of the game a bit too early.
Despite performance issues hampering the first episode's launch on Steam and consoles,"Batman: The Telltale Series" is deemed one of Telltale Games' best so far, and people are now eagerly awaiting for the series' second episode.
Another thing that will drop this month is the retail version of "Batman: The Telltale Series," dubbed The Season Pass Disc, which includes the premiere episode of the game. The rest of the episodes can be downloaded as soon as they are available, with no extra cost.
This format is quite unusual for Telltale Games, according to Polygon, as they usually release retail versions of their games like "The Walking Dead" and "The Wolf Among Us" as soon as the whole series wraps up.
Last year, Telltale Games released a similar retail format for another one of its popular titles, "Minecraft: Story Mode."
This move was panned by fans, Jstationx reported, saying that most players but the physical version of their games as they either have no time to wait for the game to download as it loads or risk maxing out internet bandwidth and defeats the purpose of buying a physical copy.
It looks like the retail build for "Batman: The Telltale Series" has gotten the same reaction as "Minecraft: Story Mode" Season Pass Disc, with most people saying that they will skip buying a physical copy until all five episodes are released.
Telltale Games is 'aiming to' get all episodes out before the year ends, according to the head of creative communications Job Stauffer.
"We develop live, so bear with us on Episode 5 in December," Stauffer clarified on Twitter. "Regardless, you will play the majority of the series this year, if not all of it, after it premieres later this Summer!"
"Batman: The Telltale Series" Season Pass Disc will be available in North America on Sept. 13. The game is available on iOS, Android, Mac, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
