'Pokémon GO' Release Date Update: Niantic Finally Acknowledges India; Generation Two On Its Way
J RoseNiantic Labs has finally responded to India's pleas to bring "Pokémon GO" to their country.
In a recent blog update, Niantic Labs CEO John Hanke said that the game is currently available in over 100 countries around the world, and is still working hard to bring the game to more countries, particularly India.
Hanke also mentioned this during the recent TechCrunch event, saying that the team had their hands full during the launch that it can't focus on other things like expanding the game to other countries yet.
"A few hours into the US launch we'd blown through our machine quota," Hanke said "I put in an emergency email to Sundar and said 'please send reinforcements.' The Google Cloud team was great and sent in more reinforcements and kinda kept things going."
"Things are calmer now," Hanke assured, "but there are many markets we haven't officially rolled out in. India, South Asia, parts of Africa, China."
Unfortunately, Hanke cannot confirm which country will be next to get the game, but this is a great assurance for those who are waiting for a long time, especially folks in India.
Hanke also said that the team has only "scratched the the surface" of gameplay that the team is aiming for. The CEO also said that the game is "pretty likely" to come to Android Wear soon.
PvP battles are not prioritized at the moment, but will be "added to the roadmap," Hanke confirmed.
Speaking about Generation Two Pokémon, Hanke hinted that players will get to see them very soon.
"We've launched the first gen of Pokémon, 150ish of 700," Hanke said. "It was always the intent to introduce more over time."
"There are some Pokémon that are highly coveted by people that will get people excited when they show up in the game," he continued. "I've mentioned these events. It's like Comic-Con meets a 5k."
Stay tuned for more "Pokémon GO" updates.
