'No Man's Sky': Sony Boss Blames Hello Games For Setting 'Unrealistic Expectations'; More Patch To Be Expected?
J RoseFans who have been waiting for the highly anticipated open-world space title "No Man's Sky" for years have been slightly disappointed with the end product, with some calling it an underwhelming experience.
Hello Games, with Sean Murray at the helm, has been quite successful stirring hype for the game ever since it was first launched. However, the final game is not exactly what the developer has described.
Now the President of Sony's Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida blamed the indie studio for building up unrealisic expectations about "No Man's Sky" before launch.
"I had the opportunity to play the game right before launch - and I restarted playing the game on launch day with the Day One patch," Yoshida told Eurogamer at the Tokyo Game Show last week. "So I could see the struggle for the developers to get the game out in the state that they wanted."
While he expressed his enjoyment playing "No Man's Sky," the Sony Boss said that he can understand the criticisms surrounding the controversial title.
"I understand some of the criticisms especially Sean Murray is getting," he said, "because he sounded like he was promising more features in the game from day one."
"It wasn't a great PR strategy, because he didn't have a PR person helping him, and in the end he is an indie developer," Yoshida added. "But he says their plan is to continue to develop No Man's Sky features and such, and I'm looking forward to continuing to play the game."
Sean Murray, who has not been active on Twitter since August, has kept his silence about the matter. His last post on his Twitter account was about focusing on customer support.
Work is still being made in the background, with Hello Games recently dispatching a 1.09 patch for the PS4. There were no patch notes included in the update, however, and has left players in the dark on what actually changed, according to PC Gamer.
All in all, "No Man's Sky" is still a solid game in itself, but Hello Games would need to step up and make the game more enjoyable before the community decides to completely abandon ship.
