'Dead Island' PC Version Gets New Patch Update; 'Dead Island 2' 2016 Release Date Unlikely
J RoseA new patch update has recently been released for open-world survival horror game "Dead Island" and "Dead Island Riptide" after a long silence from the publisher Deep Silver. However, there is still no news about its much awaited sequel, "Dead Island 2."
According to an update by the publisher via Steam last week, the new patch will fix known issues such as missing blueprints, audio issues, and more. Here are the changes and tweaks included in the patch.
Added missing mods/weapons/blueprints (BBQ, Exploding Meat, Ripper)
Proper loot and updated item placement for important items (like collectibles)
Removed the metallic blood effect
Resolved audio issue with sound stuttering and adjusted level of co-op player sounds
Co-op network stability improved
Ferry mission crash bug fixed
This announcement and patch update took "Dead Island" fans by surprise as the publisher has been unusually quiet for the past few months. Prior to this update, the last post on Twitter was in May, around the time when the Definitive Edition for "Dead Island" and "Dead Island Riptide" was released.
Deep Silver also said on their Twitter post that the patches for the console versions will be coming soon.
The new patch is a welcome update for "Dead Island" and "Dead Island Riptide," but the publisher is still not revealing any information about the next title in the series, "Dead Island 2."
It was previously reported that Deep Silver has been experiencing development hell with its upcoming title. The game was originally going to be developed by Techland, which was responsible for the first two "Dead Island" titles. However, the development studio has to let go of the franchise to focus on another high profile title, "Dying Light."
Yager Development then stepped in to take the development role from Techland in 2012. In July 2015, however, Deep Silver announced that Yager will no longer be working on "Dead Island 2" and the game will be passed on to another developer, according to Eurogamer.
The project is now being handled by Sumo Digital, who is also developing Microsoft Studios' "Crackdown 3." Because of the move, the game has been delayed to 2016, but there are only a few months left in the year, making a 2016 release date highly unlikely at this point.
Deep Silver, which also published "Mighty No. 9," confirmed on a Twitter post that they are still working on "Dead Island 2," and more information will be revealed "at a later stage."
