Microsoft Surface Phone To Carry Lumia's Torch And Compete vs Apple, Android Phones? What We Know So Far
Ribhu .While iOS and Android phones continue to dominate the market despite the presence of the Lumia, Microsoft is bringing in reinforcements through the Surface phone. Will this be enough to bring in tough competition?
Back in the days of the first Lumias, the Lumia 510, 520, and 800 under the brand name of Nokia, when Windows Phones were still casting an impression, something did not go quite right.
The ones running on Windows Mango and Tango (Windows Phone 7.5 and 7.8) could not receive the major Windows 8 update, for they were built on different hardware architectures. As a result, Nokia had to completely abandon the lineup.
Windows 8 started on phones with fewer apps in the market, and many of them were loaded with bugs. Eventually, things began to pick up the pace, but by then, the market had began to decline the OS.
Microsoft had earlier hoped that the higher version Lumia 950 and 950XL would have saved the day, but this was not the case. Microsoft phones have a lot fewer apps as compared to Android phones. However, this could be solved with Microsoft's universal app platform. Fortunately, most-used apps like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram are accessible.
It is said that the Surface Phone is landing in three variations with each focused at different markets: buyer, business, and fans.
The fundamental difference between the variations would be the memory design, which is at 3GB, 6GB, and 8GB RAM. There are additionally discussions on a 20MP camera optics via Carl Zeiss optics, similar focal point found in Nokia Lumia phones. Moreover, it could have a 5.7-inch Quad HD display that will be competing directly with the iPhone 7 Plus or iPhone 8 Plus.
The most anticipated component, however, is called Continuum. As indicated by Business Insider, it clearly gives users a chance to interface a console, mouse and screen to the Windows 10 phone and utilize it like a PC.
The release date of the Surface Phone is yet to be announced.
