Actor Lee Joon-Gi Talks About 'Scarlet Heart: Ryeo' Ratings Going Down, Says 'I Feel Sad'
VivianThe viewership ratings of SBS's "Scarlet Heart: Ryeo" continue to drop as every episode passes. The 16th chapter of the historical drama only accumulated 6.8 percent, which is a 2.4 percent drop from its previous episode.
Lead actor Lee Joon-Gi, who plays 4th Prince Wang So, recently sat down with Korea's Singles Magazine to talk about his acting career and the ongoing SBS drama. He admitted that he is entirely sad about the low viewership ratings.
"I have worries about the TV ratings," Lee Joon-Gi admitted, as noted by All Kpop. "I feel sad. All the actors and staff worked so hard. Everyone worked so hard."
In spite of its ensemble cast and extensive publicity, "Scarlet Heart: Ryeo" only averaged single-digit viewership ratings in South Korea. The historical drama, which is based on Tong Hua's novel "Bu Bu Jing Xin," received mixed criticism for its acting and directing.
Regardless, the SBS drama drew a more favorable response abroad. In the first week of September, "Scarlet Heart: Ryeo" was the most influential television show with a recorded total of 294.3 points, according to CJ E&M via The Kpop Herald.
"I have no regrets," Lee added. "As a leading role, I must have a sense of responsibility with its success, including TV ratings. As I watch this drama, I am looking for what it is lacking."
In order to become a better actor, Lee revealed that he watched almost all the on-going movies and TV dramas to comprehend why certain shows have high ratings. He added, "It helps me be a better actor for the next work and also helps me to select scripts [in the future]."
When questioned about his marriage plans, Lee said that he wants to be settled as an actor first before tying the knot.
"I have my priorities," Lee stressed. "It's not just about performing well as an actor. I think a lot about how I can be chosen by the public consistently."
"Scarlet Heart: Ryeo" airs every Monday and Tuesday on SBS.
