Here is a quick comparison between the Sony A99 II and the Nikon D810. Both are killer semi-pro DSLRs, but with a huge price gap between each other. See if the the specs, features, and the extra bells and whistles justifies the need for a deeper pocket.
Sensor
The Sony A99 II DSLR boasts a huge 42MP Full Frame BSI-CMOS sensor, which is quite a huge step from the 36MP full frame CMOS sensor of the Nikon D810. Not only does this mean higher resolution image with cranked up details, but it also brings better sensitivity and lower noise on higher ISO settings.
However, both have no Anti-Aliasing filter, making the two cameras less likely to produce moire on images. The Sony A99 II can also shoot 4K videos, while the Nikon D810 cannot.
The Nikon D810 has an extended ISO range of 64 up to 51200, but the Sony A99 ranges from 50 to 102400, making it the better choice for extreme low light situations.
Extra Features
Both the Nikon D810 and Sony A99 II are weather-sealed, making them very effective cameras and a large number of scenarios and ideal for outdoor photography. However, the Sony A99 II gets huge advantage with 12 frames per second burst shooting compared to D810's 5 frames per second.
However, one feature that the Sony A99 II is the 2359k Electronic viewfinder. While some may find this useful for some application, certain photographers still prefer the optical viewfinder.
In terms of lens selection, the Nikon D810 uses and F mount, making it significantly advantageous over the Sony A99 II, which only has a limited number of lens available for the Sony/Minolta mount.
Conclusion
With a current asking price of $3,200 for the Sony A99 II, it is $100 cheaper than the D810, but surprisingly has more features, but with the exception of fewer lenses, the two cameras are just about the same value for the price.
It will boil down again to the brand preference and familiarity for the Sony A99 II and the Nikon D810.
