iPad Air 3 Rumors Roundup: Apple Tablet Thinner, With 4K Display, A10 Processor
Gio C.While it has been two years since the Apple iPad Air's last refresh, there hasn't been much news about the highly-anticipated Air 3, bringing more hearsays than actual news online. Here's a quick look at the latest rumors that we have so far.
The iPad Air 3 is said to feature a 9.7-inch, 4K resolution display, and 5 millimeters of thickness, according to Tech Times. It would be a bit thinner than the current iPad Air 2, with its 6.1 millimeter thickness.
The device could also feature the latest Apple A10 processor, similar to that on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. A powerful-yet-efficient CPU, Apple A10 features 4 cores: 2 energy-efficient cores for light use, and another 2 for high-performance tasks; this could be a significant battery life and performance upgrade to the iPad Air 3, if implemented.
In the camera department, the Air 3 is rumored to have an 8-megapixel main, which has LED flash, and a 2.1-megapixel front shooter. The device may also feature a bigger capacity battery and 4 gigabytes of RAM -- a possibly noteworthy upgrade from the current generation iPad.
A few sources suggested that the company is working on a scalable version of 3D Touch, a pressure-sensitive technology present on the iPhone 6s and 7, for use with bigger Apple devices like the iPad Air 3. An inclusion of a fingerprint sensor is also expected, as well as the controversial removal of the 3.5mm audio jack, similar to the iPhone 7.
Color options for the iPad Air 3 could now be possible with the Jet Black and Rose Gold colors. The iPad Air 3 could be also waterproofed, and could feature four speakers instead of two.
The current generation iPad Air 2 was introduced in October 2014, and its storage capacity has been upgraded recently, possibly telling users that the iPad Air 3 would push through despite abandonment speculations. It is expected to be officially announced on March 2017.
Stay tuned for more news about the Apple iPad Air 3.
