The much talked about Google and Motorola deal has finally been approved by Chinese regulators. The multi-billion dollar purchase of Motorola Mobility by Google came as a surprise to many, some who even thought Google made a wrong move, which may be evident now since Motorola lost its patent dispute with Microsoft, which ultimately led to all Android-based Motorola smartphones being banned in the United States.
The purchase was already approved in Europe, the United States, and other parts of the world. In February, Motorola said in a regulatory finding that it needed approval from China, now it has got what it wanted, what now?
Motorola Mobility has over 17,000 patents, all which are now owned by Google and is intended to protect itself and Android from Apple, Microsoft, and any other company that might want to cash in on the success of the #1 smartphone operating system in the world. According to data compiled by Bloomberg, the acquisition is the largest wireless equipment deal in the last decade, this shows how important Motorola Mobility's 17,000 patents are to Google in defending itself from the current and upcoming attacks.
In an email statement, Google said, "Our stance since we agreed to acquire Motorola has not changed and we look forward to closing the deal." Google also confirmed the deal's approval in China.
