'Mass Effect Andromeda' Update: Bioware Explains Changes In Romance, Main Protagonist, More
J RoseMore information has been revealed about Bioware's much-awaited game "Mass Effect Andromeda" as we move closer to the scheduled Spring 2017 release date window.
A lot of details about the highly anticipated next title in the "Mass Effect" series has emerged, thanks to a cover story made by Game Informer. The publication has revealed tons of interesting information about the game, including a new enemy race, more companions, and more.
Bioware also discussed some changes in "Mass Effect Andromeda"'s romance system, a staple in most of its franchises.
"Mass Effect Andromeda" Romance, What Has Changed?
Bioware's Mac Walters explained that the romance feature in "Mass Effect Andromeda" will be more "in depth" compared to previous titles.
"By my count, if you include squad, crew, and light romances, we have more romances than we've ever had before," Walters revealed. "And like I said, the relationships are more in depth than we've had before."
"The [characters] that aren't romanceable should have just as interesting and in-depth an arc as the ones who do. That's one thing we did to make it feel more natural," the Bioware creative director added. "We have to check ourselves because we know the fans want romances, so the obvious thing is to make [everyone] romanceable, but that's not real."
On Ryder Being A "Blank Slate"
As for "Mass Effect Andromeda" protagonist Ryder, Walters said that he or she is more like a "blank slate" compared to the previous titles' hero Commander Shepard.
"Shepard came on the scene, and it felt like they'd already accomplished a lot and they'd done a lot and they'd seen a lot - but I hadn't," Walters explained. "That whole universe was new to me, and so there was a bit of a disconnect between me and my player character right from the start."
"Mass Effect Andromeda" is scheduled for a Spring 2017 release.
