'Crackdown 3' Not Cancelled, Latest Game Build 'Looking Good', Says Xbox Boss
J RoseThere are tons of speculations circulating about "Crackdown 3" getting cancelled, but Xbox boss Phil Spencer recently dispelled all rumors.
Speaking on his Twitter account, Spencer confirmed to an avid "Crackdown" fan that the game is still in development, contrary to rumors about its cancellation.
"Yep, Shannon Loftis (General Manager of Microsoft Studios Publishing) and team are working on it," Spencer confirmed.
Spencer also said that he has seen a build of "Crackdown 3" and it "looked good." "One thing I love about 'Crackdown', you know it from a single frame, look is iconic." he added.
Last June, during E3 week, "Crackdown 3" creative director David Jones announced that the game will be coming in 2017.
"'Crackdown 3' is a game built for the future with a multiplayer experience that will redefine what it feels like to play games," ones wrote in a statement on the official Crackdown website, "and as we continue to work on this, it has become clear that our original timeline of delivering multiplayer to fans this summer, while maintaining the size, scope and quality of the game, would be challenging."
"Our top priority is to give gamers an experience they have never seen before at a scale never thought possible," Jones continued, "and sticking to our original timeline would have compromised that goal."
The sequel was initially announced during Xbox's media briefing at E3 2014. It is said to continue the series six years after the events of "Crackdown 2."
A gameplay video was then showcased for the first time a year later at Gamescom 2015, according to The Verge.
PC gamers also have something to get excited about as they will finally be able to play "Crackdown 3" for the first time ever. Reagent Games has also announced that "Crackdown 3" will be playable on PC, made possible by the Xbox Play Anywhere program.
The previous titles, "Crackdown" and "Crackdown 2," were released exclusively on the Xbox 360.
"Crackdown 3" is scheduled for a 2017 release.
