Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Update: 'Injustice,' More Games Added To The List
J RoseAnother fighting game enters the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility library this week.
Joining the already huge lineup of backwards compatible titles on the Xbox One, publisher Warner Games, Inc. and "Mortal Kombat" developer NetherRealm Studios' "Injustice: Gods Among Us" is added to the list.
The fighting game based on the DC Comics universe was first released for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii U in April 2013. An expanded version of the game called "Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition," which included all downloadable content, was released later that year.
"Injustice: Gods Among Us" received positive reviews from critics, with IGN calling the game "a very good brawler and a big old sloppy love letter to fans," and praised the game for its improved, unique mechanics and strong storyline.
Both editions are backwards compatible on Xbox One now, although the Ultimate Edition is disc only.
Microsoft also added the sequel to old school Atari 2600 video game "Haunted House." Released by Atari under the same name, the 1982 video game was revamped in 2010 and was launched on Windows, Nintendo Wii and Xbox Live Arcade. The sequel takes place 30 years after the original title.
Microsoft is also beginning to bring out the big guns to the Xbox One backwards compatibility list, with an addition of a game in the highly popular "The Elder Scrolls" series, "Oblivion."
The fourth installment in "The Elder Scrolls" franchise makes its way to the ever expanding library of backwards compatible titles on the Xbox One. "Oblivion" was first released for the Xbox 360 and PC more than ten years ago, in March 2006. The game was also released for the Playstation 3 a year later.
"Oblivion" received critical and commercial success upon release, selling over 9.5 million units, and is one of the most popular games in "The Elder Scrolls" series. The game has joined other Bethesda titles in the list like "Fallout: New Vegas," Doom 3 BFG Edition" and "RAGE," which were all added this year.
Apart from "Oblivion," Microsoft also added Atlus' "Trine 2," Electronic Arts' "MOH Airborne," and Microsoft Studios' "Astropop" to the Xbox One backwards compatibility list last week.
