'GTA 4' Sales Skyrocket To Over 8,000 Percent After Getting Xbox One Backwards Compatibility

Rockstar Games' "GTA 4" sales spiked after joining last week's XBox One backward compatibility program to over 8,000 percent, as of this writing. The game has already sold quite a few million copies since its release and the Complete Edition did very well, too, with a 4,500 percent increase in its own right.

The program usually boosts sales of older games that get added to the list. Without a doubt, Microsoft's choice to integrate a backward compatible aspect to the Xbox One has not only been lauded by both fans and critics alike, it has gone on to become the most potent selling point for the scheme.

The Phenomenal Turnout

Many believed the " GTA 4" to be one of the best games of the last generation on PS3 and Xbox 360. Therefore, the open world title's positive sales surge should actually come as no surprise. The spectacle is how big the turnout has been so far. "Grand Theft Auto 4" now ranks as a bestseller on the retail giant website.

GamingBolt reports that the "Red Dead Redemption," similarly, created the same sensation when it made its way onto Microsoft's current system via backward compatibility. Still, those sales didn't really compete with what "Grand Theft Auto 4" saw.

Backward Compatibility Equals Sales Explosion

According to GameRant, even though some of Rockstar Games' products like "GTA 4" could be considered dated, loads of buffs are still extremely excited for the chance to replay or see the company's older titles for the first time on current hardware. This is likely due to the games' being of a higher quality than Rockstar's competitors.

Digital game owners have direct access on Xbox One, so they can download "GTA 4" straight from the 'Ready to Install' section of their Xbox One and play at will. Physical game owners can just insert the Xbox 360 game disc into their Xbox One and download the game. "Grand Theft Auto 4" is currently available for PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Xbox One via backward compatibility.
