'Friends' Reunion Won't Be Happening Because Of Facebook, Says Jennifer Aniston; Reboot Unlikely To Happen?
GraceFans have been hopeful since news about the possible "Friends" reunion have been all over the Internet. However, the show's creator Marta Kauffman and Jennifer Aniston said that this will unlikely happen.
First, the cast denied a rumored reunion, which was to take place during a tribute to Jimmy Burrows, and now show co-creator Marta Kauffman has put the final nail in the coffin. The 59-year-old writer and producer, who co-created the sitcom with David Crane, has confirmed that there will never be a "Friends" reunion movie either.
"For me, why go back to that territory again? she told Us Weekly. "That was about a certain time in your life, and I had just left [the] Friends time of my life. This is about the time of my life I'm looking toward."
She also denied the rumors about a "Friends" reboot.
"'Friends' is about that time in your life when your friends are your family," she told EW. "Once you start having a family, that changes. And you have new groups. It's not that you don't love those people anymore, but it changes. But to put them back together now when it's no longer that time of their lives, there's no reason for the show. That's all the show was about-that time and those relationships."
"I really love how it ended; I think it was kind of a perfect ending. And I can't see any good reason to revisit it," the co-creator added.
In addition, Jennifer Aniston, who portrayed Rachel Green in the famous sitcom, shut down the possibility of a future return of the iconic '90s show as well. She revealed that she does not think the concept would work in the modern era of social media.
"I don't know what we would do," Aniston pondered. "I think that period of time was sort of nostalgic, you know, there's something about a time - and I think why people have such an affection for it - there was something about a time when our faces weren't shoved into cell phones and we weren't checking Facebook and Instagram. We were in a room together, or in a coffee shop together and we were talking. And we've lost that."
While "Friends" fans may be dismayed about the reunion and reboot news, the show's co-creator including Jennifer Aniston said that they can watch the show all over again to reminisce.
