'The Last Guardian' Guide: How To Optimize The Game On Standard PlayStation 4 While Waiting For A Patch
C. de LacyUnlike what fans have expected, "The Last Guardian" has become somewhat of a lackluster regarding performance, even on the PlayStation 4 Pro. Here are some tips on how to play it on its most optimized and playable frame-rate experience.
As indicated in Digital Foundry's analysis, "The Last Guardian" is best experienced on a PlayStation 4 Pro. The problem is, not everybody is willing to dish out another couple of dollars for another console, especially to those who just got their PlayStation 4 months or weeks before PS4 Pro hit the markets.
Still, it isn't to say that "The Last Guardian" is not going to work on the standard PlayStation 4. However, given that there have been numerous proofs and footage showing how the game fares on the PlayStation 4 Pro, some sacrifices have to be made on the standard console.
The first one is to reduce the resolution. We all know that 1080p have always been the way to go for the PlayStation 4, but just as the PlayStation 4 Pro sort of struggles with the 4K mode on "The Last Guardian," the same thing could easily be said with the standard PlayStation 4.
The trade-of will be some additional frames for the PlayStation 4. For the 1080p resolution, the game dips around 20-30 frames per second, but with 720p, things get a bit smoother, though some details start to disappear or blur out.
Again, for those who spend their time admiring the visuals, the 1080p is the best settings for the PlayStation 4, but if stable framerates are something more important, a reduced resolution wouldn't be much of a sacrifice. It is already a perk for PS4 owners that this game is a PlayStation exclusive title so getting the most out of it is a must depending on how one wants to experience it.
Another tip, which also works for both the standard PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 4 Pro is by clearing the cache, especially units who have been playing games, uninstalling, browsing and getting into lots of activities. Not the best thing to do especially on a busy or shared console, but it provides some slight boost to performance.
Waiting for about nine years has been a long stretch for "The Last Guardian," and it was a shame that even with the not-so-busy visuals, slowdowns still happen. Hopefully, a patch will be rolled out to address these issues.
