Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Batteries Explodes And Catches Fire [VIDEO]; Is This Another Note 7 Situation?
Vinay PatelWhile Samsung is leaving no stone unturned in their bid to amend the company's rundown reputation, thanks to the Galaxy Note 7 debacle, it looks like things are about to get even harder for the South Korean handset maker. A Reddit user's Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus has reportedly burned down on his nightstand.
Not too long ago, the now-defunct Galaxy Note 7 burst into flames and it gradually turned out to be a widespread situation. In the wake of the Note 7 fiasco, Samsung was forced to recall the fiery handset for good. Fast forward to now, a Reddit user called ReturnThroughAether has claimed that his Galaxy S6 Edge Plus caught fire while it was just seated on the nightstand.
It's worth noting that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus has shown no sign of heating or exhibited any sort of issue with the battery before. The user commented in his post that he used the original Samsung charger that came with the phone. He has since got in touch with the handset manufacturer and his carrier AT&T, if the logo shown at the back of his device in the video below is anything to go by.
Images of the combusted S6 Edge Plus shared by the Reddit user shows a visible marking at both front and back of the device, exactly where the battery is seated. The display seems quite busted just like the back of the device, which also split open from the side and close to where the battery sat, GSM Arena reported.
At first glance, the issue might seem comparable to the Galaxy Note 7; however, this is not the same by any stretch of the imagination. The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus hit the store shelves nearly a year ago and there haven't been any notable reports of the device's battery burning down. Moreover, the Note 7 issue was widespread as compared to this.
Nevertheless, this makes it imperative for Samsung to ensure that its upcoming flagship smartphones, i.e. Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8, are nearly flawless --- especially when it comes to the security front.
