Nintendo fans are beginning to wonder if and when Nintendo will launch classic 2D Mario games to mobile devices following the launch of Super Mario Run; however, Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto debunked it in one of his interviews. If Nintendo truly has no plans to port any of their NES or SNES games onto iOS or Android, then the upcoming Delta emulator will be the most-awaited iPhone app yet for users to play such games.

Mobile developer Riley Testut released an emulator for the iPhone called GBA4iOS several years ago, which was one of the most capable Game Boy emulators on a mobile device that even made it possible to download classic games without any jailbreak. Two years later, Testut is back with a more ambitious emulator spin-off: the Delta.

The Delta can emulate a wide range of consoles such as Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Super Nintendo, and Nintendo 64, unlike the previous emulator that was limited to only one console. According to Testut's blog post, he would be focusing on these popular Nintendo consoles first, then add more in the future. Although the Delta emulator won't be available to the public until early 2017, BGR got hold of its first beta release and had some quick hands-on impressions.

Reportedly, the Delta emulator already felt like a completed product despite of being just weeks or months away from its official release. As of now, it can only play GBA and SNES games. According to BGR, its emulation quality was the best so far on the iPhone. Adding ROMs to the app is simple as well, but the options are still limited and are only available via iTunes and iCloud Drive. Users have to actually import the games. It may also have a small price to pay in order to have outstanding emulation without jailbreaking the iPhone.

Users can adjust the virtual controller's opacity and choose a new input method, but that's it for now since the customization settings are still limited. Although the whole Delta emulator has not been finalized yet, its UI seems to be already clean and appealing. Its controller skin also looks good and responds even faster than any other tested emulators.
