A new video has surfaced courtesy of Chinese retailer ETrade Supply, which appears to show the back case of the iPhone 5, and its new unibody design. The video includes a side-by-side comparison of the supposed iPhone 5 back plate with the iPhone 4S we all know and love, and some of the changes are notable.
Whether the case is legitimate or not is anyone's guess, but the case design in the video does seem to fall in line with some of the earlier rumors about the specifications of the iPhone 5, including a slightly longer design (4" compared to 3.5" for the iPhone 4), and what appears to be a built-in microphone, another rumoured design component.
Other notable features of the case are its slightly slimmer build (also rumored at times), a smaller SIM card slot, which would signal the arrival of smaller SIM cards to go along with it, a new position for the headphone jack, now located at the bottom of the case, a redesigned docking port, and new speaker grills.
Of course, even if this was an actual case developed for the iPhone 5, it's entirely possible it could be modified slightly or changed entirely by the time the real deal hits store shelves (and eager buyer's hands) everywhere. It's also possible the case is nothing but an elaborate fake, brilliantly utilizing those early rumors to come up with what appears to be a legitimate and compelling design.
No matter what the 'case' may be, the escalation of rumors and leaking of apparent parts points to the fact that the iPhone 5's launch day is rapidly approaching, possibly even sooner than was previously thought, with analysts predicting a September unveiling of the device, with a full global launch shortly afterwards, in October. For Apple and tech aficionados worldwide, that's something to get extremely excited about.
