New 'Pokemon Go' Holiday Event Lets You Catch a Lot More Critters; Here’s What’s Happening From Dec 25 to Jan 3, 2017
Van DNiantic Labs will launch a holiday "Pokemon Go" event on Christmas Day. "Pokemon Go" fans will enjoy catching more critters for two weeks.
Niantic stated on PokemonGoLive that the "Pokemon Go" holiday event will run from Dec. 25, 2016 to Jan. 3, 2017. During the event, PokeStops will provide one single-use Incubator after a player's first Photo Disc spin on a daily basis.
The award will boost the chances of "Pokemon Go" players finding eggs that hatch Pichu, Togepi and other Pokemon that were originally available in the Johto region. The two second-gen monsters first surfaced earlier in December 2016. The "Pokemon Go" holiday event will also feature special Pikachu wearing festive Santa hats.
From December 30 to January 8, "Pokemon Go" players may meet the first partner Pokemon and their evolutions, which were first found in the Kanto region. The holiday event will increase players' chances of catching original Pokemon like Squirtle, Blastoise, Wartortle, Charmander, Charizard, Charmeleon, Bulbasaur, Venusaur and Ivysaur. The "Pokemon Go" holiday event will also feature Lure Modules lasting for 60 minutes, instead of the usual 30 minutes.
"Pokemon Go" recently introduced second-generation characters to the mobile game via egg hatching. Wild Pikachu wearing Santa hats will be available for a longer period of time during the "Pokemon Go" holiday event. The first batch of bonuses will begin on Christmas Day, while the second batch will commence on New Year's Day.
The new holiday event follows the launch of the "Pokemon Go" Apple Watch app that allows players to enjoy the game outdoors. Niantic also featured Halloween and Thanksgiving events to promote the game more.
Forbes said that the extra single-use Incubator allows 10 free egg hatches, since "Pokemon Go" players can get one from December 25 to January 3. It will be a huge advantage for players to hatch several eggs at a time for free. It is also good that Niantic increased the chances of players getting Gen 2 Pokemon from new eggs.
It is still uncertain whether the "Pokemon Go" holiday event will showcase a full map makeover or merely prolonged appearances of critters. More updates and details are expected soon.
