Sony's 3D Audio-Based Platinum Wireless Headset Launches January 21; Pre-Order Starts At Amazon & Gamestop
Keisuke AkioSony's latest Platinum Wireless headset premiered on their blog is set to launch in early 2017. The premium headset is positioned to cater the PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR and mobile users.
Sony's forthcoming product boasts of its hidden noise canceling microphones, 3D audio technology and 50 mm drivers for the solid range. It features Wireless functionality on PlayStation 4, lightweight design and extended battery life. Sony Platinum Wireless headset backs 7.1 virtual surround sound and companion application for configuring diverse audio modes for enhanced game audibility. Sony claims that by using their latest headset players will experience how games were made to sound.
Over the years, video games have advanced graphically into almost lifelike scenarios. With Virtual Reality, gamers can now be in a virtual world where things in the game feel, appear and look real. Sony Platinum Wireless Headset promises to bring total immersion in the VR world by mastering the audio consistency and quality. Moreover, for games that lack the 3D audio capability, the Sony Platinum Wireless headsets will yield improved virtual surround sound compared to usual headsets.
Sony Platinum Wireless headsets' wireless functionality works only on the Playstation 4 console where a wireless adapter is used. A 3.5mm audio cable is provided for the PlayStation VR gamers and mobile users. 3D audio only functions when it is plugged in. This means that even a PlayStation 4 gamer need to plug in to be able to experience the 3D audio.
Sony Platinum Wireless headsets are set to be released on January 16, 2017, in Europe and January 12, 2017, in North America. The headsets are now at a pre-order price of $160 ($199.99 CAD, or £129, or €179) on Amazon and Gamestop. As of this writing, PlayStation 4 is not supporting any 3D audio. Games like ''MLB the Show 17'' and ''Uncharted: The Lost Legacy,'' however, supports 3D audio, says VRHeadsets.
