Nokia VS Apple Lawsuit: Nokia Again Sues Apple For 10 Additional Patents Including Siri & Camera Design! Lawsuit Expanded Across 11 Countries!
uBmuseApple and Nokia have been fighting over patents for quite a while now. Both the companies settled such a patent case back in 2011 and now there's again a new Nokia Vs Apple Lawsuit. The fight started with Apple filing an antitrust lawsuit against patent assertion entities, or PAEs, which act on Nokia's behalf. Now, Nokia has decided to retaliate for this lawsuit by Suing Apple directly for 10 Patent infringements.
Apple's lawsuit against Nokia, which was filed in California, states that Nokia is transferring the FRAND patents to PAEs for financial benefits. Apple already has agreements to license its FRAND patents and believes that the transfer shouldn't be allowed as it is causing damage to a number of tech giants, including Apple.
Nokia recently filed a patent violation case against Apple stating that the company owes Nokia Money for the features they've been using in their products. The Smartphone giant has now again sued the US based company for 10 additional patents, referred to as Patent-In-Suit. The new Nokia VS Apple lawsuit targets some of the popular features of Apple's products, including RF technology, Siri's "Find my iPhone" feature and eight other iPhone related Patents.
Nokia states in its lawsuit that the US-based tech giant has been using the Qualcomm manufactured RF part in iPhone 6S. The use of these RF parts violates the '247' patent agreement with Nokia. The number of devices having this RF part is also quite large, notably iPads, iPhone 5s, iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
In the same Nokia Vs Apple lawsuit, Nokia claims that some of Siri services violate the patent of interaction with Music and web-based services. The company has filed a total of 10 patent violations, which also include some iOS 10 features and the camera design of iPhone. The company states that the cut-out rear camera on iPhone has already been patented by Nokia.
The tech giant had earlier filed the Nokia Vs Apple lawsuit in the US and Germany, which the company now claims to have expanded to a total of 11 countries. The other countries where the suit has been filed include Turin, Italy; Stockholm, Sweden; Helsinki, Finland; London, United Kingdom; Barcelona, Spain; Paris, France; Hong Kong; The Hague, Netherlands; and Tokyo, Japan.
Apple is now facing two opponents, Nokia as well as the PAEs. It's very unlikely that Apple will be taking off its products from the market in case it loses the case. However, Nokia may get a share out of Apple's Profits to settle down the argument in a couple of years. Stay tuned to Mobile&Apps for more latest updates on Nokia Vs Apple Lawsuit.
