Facebook And Google Are The Most Popular Apps In 2016
Cris Xander JulianoSocial network giant Facebook and Search Engine titan Google top the Nielsen's ranking for the most popular apps of 2016. The two sites came up on top to dominate the app world.
The report was first published by CNET. Facebook, with more than 146 million monthly users in the US, remains the most popular app of 2016, with its Facebook Messenger app coming in at a close second with 129 million users.
Instagram, also owned by Facebook since 2012, is the eighth most popular app with 74 million monthly users, which grew by one-third from 2015. Internationally, Facebook has an average of 1.8 billion monthly users and is the largest social network in the world.
On the other hand, Tech Crunch reports that Google has the most apps that are included on the Nielsen's ranking. The Google apps that are on the list are YouTube, at number three with 113 million users, Google Maps at number four with 105 million users, Google Search at number five with 103 million users, Google Play Store at number six with 99 million users and Gmail at number seven with 88 million monthly users. This is no surprise considering that these apps are the basic utilities you find on any device that is why they are highly ranked in the list.
Additionally, Google's Android beat out its competitor Apple with 53 percent of US smartphone owners run on Android, while 45 percent of owners run on iOS. On the other hand, Windows users are at two percent while Blackberry users are only at one percent.
Amazon, the online retailer giant, with an average of 65 million monthly users, has the most growth in numbers with an increase of 45 percent since 2015.
