Time Warner Cable Subscribers Can Possibly Experience Channel Blackout In 2017
Ceage SottoSubscribers of Time Warner Cable (TWC) can possibly experience channel blackouts next year. Stalling negotiations between TWC owner Charter Communications and NBCUniversal can deliver the possible blackout.
According to CNN, both companies should reach an agreement. Failure to do so will result in millions of TWC subscribers to lose access to many NBCUniversal's channels. This isn't the usual Time Warner Cable outage as it would have a permanent effect to many subscribers.
NBC Universal slate of channels is popular among Charter TWC subscribers. The channels included in the possible blackout are Bravo, E!, NBC network, MSNBC, Telemundo and much more.
If the deal between Charter and NBCUniversal will not push through, many Time Warner Cable subscribers will not be able to watch NBC Universal's marquee shows. It is possible that TWC subscribers can miss the upcoming "Sunday Night Football" matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions.
It can also be noted that NBC will host the annual Golden Globes on January 8 next year. Without the deal, subscribers may also miss the annual event. The between Charter and NBCUniversal centers around the fees that content providers pay for cable companies to air their channels.
The negotiations center around the fees that NBCUniversal and other content providers charge cable companies like Charter to show their channels. So far there hasn't been any comment from Charter and NBCUniversal.
Although many customers prefer to call themselves as Time Warner Cable subscribers, Charter took over the company earlier this year with a $65 million merger. Time Warner Cable is not affiliated with Time Warner Inc. that owns CNN.
In other news, many Time Warner Cable subscribers have complained of the company's mobile application. In a famous cable forum, several owners have already stated that the TWC app is not recognizing subscribers on home wifi.
There has not been any official word coming from TWC, but we will have to wait for updates to know more about the problem. Stay tuned for more details.
