Next ‘Batman’ Movie Updates, According To Ben Affleck; ‘Argo’ Star Opens Up About His Past Mistakes
Arianne GiftBefore "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" was released, it was revealed that Ben Affleck was in talks to direct and co-write a standalone Batman film that's been given a tentative title "The Batman." The director and star of "Argo" has spoken about the status of the planned film while promoting his upcoming movie "Live by Night."
"That's the idea," Affleck said via The Guardian, when asked about the next Batman film. "But it's not a set thing and there's no script. If it doesn't come together in a way I think is really great I'm not going to do it." On why the Hollywood actor decided to take over the role that Christian Bale perfected, Affleck credits his son, Sam, who "thinks his dad is Batman," he said with a laugh.
After "Batman v Superman" was released, Affleck has been left to defend the film he made. He has since addressed critics in an interview with Fox 5 DC in October. According to the actor, he personally loved the movie albeit the negative reviews, adding "Batman v Superman" was judged not necessarily on execution so much as on its tone.
Affleck shares three children with estranged wife Jennifer Garner: Violet, 11, Seraphina, 7 and Sam, 4. According to the actor, becoming a father has changed how he sees the world. He considers himself lucky, admitting that living a life Hollywood comes with highs and lows.
The Academy Award-winning director said that success in Hollywood comes with a price, in which he became a public figure with no identity of his own. However, Affleck said he is at peace with paying his own price, and his only agony is when time with his kids is compromised.
Apart from Ben Affleck's latest update, details on the next Batman movie are still scarce, including its release date. What's known for now is that Affleck's "The Batman" will be part of DC's Extended Cinematic Universe.
